What Goes Into an Underlayment Price
Buying factory-direct removes the distributor markup, but the final number still depends on your roof. These are the main factors.
Roof size
Measured in squares of 100 square feet. More area means more rolls and more labor.
Roof shape
Steep pitches, hips and valleys take more cutting, lapping and time than a simple gable.
Penetrations and details
Vents, skylights, chimneys and wall transitions each need extra membrane work and flashing.
Product choice
Radiant barrier, duo barrier and cap sheet products are priced differently.
Deck condition
If tear-off uncovers rotted or damaged sheathing, replacing it is added to the job.
Tear-off, permits and inspections
Removing and disposing of the old roof and meeting local permit requirements are part of the total project cost.
